BA Mathematics Integrated Teacher Education Program

This major is designed for students interested in teaching mathematics in high school or middle school. To learn more about this program, visit the Math ITEP website for more information. The following course work satisfies San José State University's requirements for a BA in Mathematics. The BA- BA Mathematics Integrated Teacher Education Program is approved as subject matter preparation for a single subject credential by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC). Those who do not wish to complete one of the degree programs or individuals seeking a single subject credential in subject areas not listed must pass all portions of the appropriate Commission-approved subject matter examination(s).

BS Applied Mathematics, Computational Science Concentration

This degree is recommended for students who wish to work in the research and development area of industry. This program also prepares a student for graduate study in applied mathematics, numerical analysis, or operations research. This concentration prepares students to not only develop mathematical models for real world problems but to also understand how to solve and interpret them using both mathematical and computational techniques.

BS Applied Mathematics, Discrete Mathematics Concentration

The concentration in Discrete Mathematics empowers students to grasp high-level discrete mathematics and its intersection with technology and other sciences. Graduates will have the skill set to do both applied industry work in computer science and graduate study in applied discrete mathematics. Moreover, Silicon Valley and similar industries need workers with both theory and practice who are robust under disruptive technologies such as large language models, blockchain, and AI. This concentration provides flexible problem-solvers who understand enough of the theory to adapt to changing job conditions.

BS Statistics

This BS Statistics program is recommended for students who wish to pursue a career in statistics. This program also prepares a student for graduate study in probability and statistics.

This program is appropriate for students pursuing a career involving the collection and analysis of numerical data, the use of statistical techniques to predict population growth or economic conditions, the use of statistics to analyze medical, environmental, legal and social problems, or to help business managers make decisions and carry out quality control. The statistics concentration also provides a solid foundation for students who plan to become actuaries.

We are no longer accepting students into the BS Applied Math, Concentration in Statistics program.  Students who want to pursue  careers in Statistics should apply to the BS Statistics program.
