Position Overview
Student Leadership Ambassadors (SLAs) represent the student voice within the Office of Student Involvement (SI). By collaborating with professional staff, SLAs play a vital role in shaping the Spartan experience across four key areas:
- Recognized Student Organizations (RSOs): Supporting our hundreds of student clubs.
- Fraternity & Sorority Life (FSL): Engaging with the Greek community.
- Campus Programming: Planning high-impact events like Weeks of Welcome.
- Leadership Development: Helping peers grow their professional skills.

As part of the SLA, you help us foster a welcoming campus environment. We empower students through leadership, community building, and a sense of belonging that lasts far beyond graduation.
Eligibility Requirements
To apply for an SLA position, students must meet the following criteria:
- Academic Status: Current SJSU undergraduate enrolled in at least 12 units per semester.
- Academic Standing: Maintain “Good Standing” (Minimum 2.0 cumulative and semester GPA).
- Conduct: Be in good judicial standing with the Office of Student Conduct and Ethical Development.
- Skills: Strong communication, reliability, and the ability to collaborate with faculty, staff, and students.
- Flexibility: Comfortable working in both a professional office setting and at dynamic indoor/outdoor events.
General Duties & Responsibilities
While each SLA has a specialized role, all team members contribute to the following:
- Student Support: Provide high-level customer service, manage the front desk, and assist campus visitors.
- Event Logistics: Assist with the preparation, setup, and execution of SI meetings and major campus events (e.g., Homecoming).
- Professionalism: Attend mandatory staff trainings and maintain strict confidentiality regarding department business.
- Collaboration: Work alongside SI staff and other campus departments to support university-wide initiatives.
- Area-Specific Roles: When you apply, you will be considered for one of the specific roles. Each role offers unique responsibilities tailored to our department’s core areas.
