AFROTC Classes

Succesful completion of AFROTC cadet milestones sees a cadet progress from one AS level to the next. As cadets continue in the program, they receive AS level appropriate training to transition from being a strong follower to leaders, poised to commision as a Department of the Air Force Officer.

Before going over how the program progresses some terminology and acronyms will need to be addressed:

  • GMC = General Military Course [Cadets learning leadership skills]
    • AS 100 = Cadets in their first year
      • AS 150 = Cadets who first enter the program at the conclusion of the Fall semester [Treated as AS 100 cadets]
    • AS 200 = Cadets in their second year
      • AS 250 = Cadets who join late and are required to complete both AS 100 and AS 200 training objectives [Treated as AS 200 cadets]

  • POC = Professional Officer Course [Cadets teaching leadership skills]
    • AS 300 = Cadets in their third year
    • AS 400 = Cadets in their fourth year

All cadets enter the program as GMC. During this time, cadets learn basic followership skills and other fundamental leadership skills.

As cadets progress in the program as a GMC they continue to hone thier skills in preparation to compete for an Enrollment Allocation (EA), which is a competively earned nomination to attend Field Training (FT) and continue in the program.

Field Training is a 3-week training program held at Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama during the summer between your AS200/AS250 and AS 300 years. Field Training is an opportunity for cadets to prove themselves as leaders ready to enter the POC and assume leadership positions within the Detachment.

Upon successful completion of FT, POC cadets are now charged with leading the GMC cadets in Detachment operations to include Physical Training (PT) and Leadership Laboratory (LLAB). This enables POC cadets to develop and refine their leadership skills.

AS400 cadets typically hold the most senior positions within the Detachment. They are expected to lead and provide strategic vision for the POC to execute tactically during PT, LLAB and Det events. During this time they refine their leadership skills in a large organizational setting to prepare themselves to enter active duty as an U.S. Air Force or Space Force Officer.
