Bio

Academic Roles and Teaching
Dominique Teaford, (she/her) DNP, RN, PHN, PMH-C, is a dedicated Lecturer and alumna of SJSU - The Valley Foundation School of Nursing. In her teaching role, she instructs a variety of nursing courses across several programs, including the Registered Nurse to Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Concurrent Enrollment Program, and the Doctor of Nursing Practice programs. Her contributions help shape the next generation of nurses and advanced practice clinicians.

Leadership in Public Health Nursing
For many years, Dr. Teaford served as a Public Health Nursing Supervisor for Santa Cruz County, focusing on Maternal, Child, and Adolescent Health (MCAH), Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), and Breastfeeding/Chestfeeding Programs. In these roles, she was responsible for ensuring that quality care was provided and that all activities remained in compliance with state regulations. Additionally, from 2018 to 2025, she led the Perinatal Mental Health Coalition of Santa Cruz County, further exemplifying her commitment to public health and mental wellness.

Additional Professional Experience
Dr. Teaford's career also includes experience as a Staff RN in Maternal Child Health, a Quality Improvement Nurse, and a Master Trainer for Facility and Medical Records Review. She has served as a Corrections Nurse, demonstrating versatility in diverse healthcare settings. Prior to her nursing career, she worked in mental health, counseling, road construction, and law enforcement, contributing a broad range of skills and perspectives to her current practice.
