NCAGE Newsletter Sept 06

The new, revived Northern California Advocates for Global
Education continues to strengthen international/global education at
participating post-secondary institutions. NCAGE includes state and private
colleges, and two- and four-year universities, as well as Ph.D. granting
schools. Participating institutions are dedicated to moving California higher education from a
mono-national perspective to an understanding of the multinational world we
inhabit. Our curricula and programs seek to globalize the content of education
by engaging students in concrete learning that links the study of the larger
world to the students’ everyday life. Toward this end, NCAGE activities,
especially its semi-annual conferences, have focused on how our teaching and
learning facilitate civic competence for a culturally diverse and globally
interdependent twenty-first century.
The Steering Committee met on July 21, 2006, to review our plans for the remainder of this year. In the months ahead, we look forward to intercampus collaboration, especially for creating a core international/global studies course that will transfer to four-year institutions. We plan to share study abroad opportunities among member campuses and with other Higher Ed entities in California to help disseminate information about all study abroad programs in the state. We firmly believe that experiential learning through study abroad is at the heart of understanding our global system, the human species, our planet, and future-centered learning. More...
