Research
Global Studies is preparing a proposal, to be submitted by AVP Mark
Novak, to create an institute sanctioned as an Organized Research Unit
(ORU). With some seed capital to begin work, the institute would carry
out research on issues arising from globalization, especially as it is
fostered by Silicon Valley firms. These studies will focus on (1)
global cities, (2) ethnography of silicon places, (3) technology in
foreign language acquisition, (4) international social
entrepreneurship, (5) conflict resolution, and (6) global climate
change.
To date, the following professors have expressed interest in serving on
the advisory council: Jan English-Lueck, Herman Boschken, Ken Gehrt,
Sharon Glazer, Michael Gorman, and Anu Basu. Within a few years we hope
to generate several million dollars in contracts and grants.
